Gaming Board Requires English-Speaking Staff

Gambling regulators on August 24 gave a thumbs up to a requirement that a Reno bar should hire an English-speaking staff whenever the slot machines in the bar are switched on for playing.

Still, the regulators allowed a lot freedom for any Reno bar owner as far as running his business is concerned.

The Gaming Control Board had earlier asked the owner of Cantina El Jaripeo on Fourth Street to have an English speaking staff in anticipation of potential problems caused by the language barrier when it comes to GCB agents and customers who might seek help for any reason in running the slot machines.

The Gaming Commission has backed the GCB's intention, but it ruled against requiring the bar owner, Rodolfo Martinez, to hire a new English speaking staff because he already has an English-speaking manager.

However, the commission would like Martinez to lock its doors to customers until the English speaking manager arrives to oversee the operations of the machines. Otherwise, the bar can just switch off its machines when no English speaking staff or manager is around.

Dynasty Games of Sparks applied for the gaming license at the bar as a slot-route operator.

Roger Fuller, Dynasty owner, has told the media that Martinez understands the situation and he is most likely going to abide by the said conditions.

Fuller also added that Martinez has already been looking for an English-speaking staff, nonetheless.
