Kansas Discusses Expansion of Casinos and Slots

On Friday, March 30, 2007, the Kansas House of Representatives debated on whether slot machines will be allowed to expand across the state of Kansas. According to the speaker, Melvin Neufeld, the debate will deal with the Senate proposal which aims to make the Kansas Lottery permanent in Kansas' gambling offerings.

The bill can also be modified to include other gambling activities, like casino establishments and placing slot machines at dog and horse racing tracks. Lately, it has been the practice of most states in the USA to feature slot machines at their racing tracks.

One of the reasons is to attract more customers and help the already dying horse racing industry back to its feet. Neufeld commented that he does not know the exact time or date that the gambling bill will be passed. Back in 2003, the House of Representatives passed a gambling bill, but the Senate has not passed it yet.

The House will also have the chance to think about a proposed modification in the constitution, which will then allow for the privatization of casino establishments in Kansas. Currently, all casinos need to be managed or operated by the state lottery.
