Mohegan Sun Casino Slots Win Slides Down

On February 16th, 2008, slot profits at the Mohegan casino slid down by 3.2% in the month of January compared with the same period last year, but adequately recovered from the decline last month. According to the figures held by the state Division of Special Revenue, the total slots win for the month of January surpassed $68.2 million but still fell lacking of last January's total slots win of $70.5 million.

The "free play" offering of Foxwoods Resort Casino contributed to a 19% drop of the slots earnings of Mohegan Sun and a 17% slide at Foxwoods just last month. The promotion of Foxwoods rewarded customers by giving them $5 to $500 vouchers, which customers can utilize to play the slot machines instead of cash.

The promotion has taken a significant chunk of the customers of Mohegan Sun. Etess also traced the slump to the effect of the company and the competition coming from the Yonkers Raceway in New York and the Twin River raceway in Rhode Island.

Etess said that he is expecting that the casino will be able to adapt to the ongoing changes and will be able to continue its presence in the market. The contributions of the casino to Connecticut were also affected, which dropped from $17.6 million last January to $17.1 million. The casino pays about 25% of the total slots win to the state.
