Slots Strategy: Chicken

Usually a slot machine strategy dictates how a sequence of bets should be handled on a particular machine. However, the chicken slot machine strategy plans out a complete playing session. Any gambling strategy is based on certain assumptions and this strategy is no different. The basic assumption underlying the chicken strategy is that one should not play on the same slot machine twice in a row. After completing a sequence on one machine the player moves on to another machine and in this manner he keeps on running from machine to machine. This running around resembles the behavior of a chicken thereby giving this slots machine strategy its name.

The strategy begins by deciding the bankroll for the day and splitting it into sessions. For example a player may have a bankroll of $540 that is split into twenty 27-coin sessions, where each coin is $1. The player will then play the full twenty sessions if he loses all and may play more if he wins. The player also has to decide the slot machine strategy for each sequence of bets. Hence the chicken strategy is used in conjunction with one of the strategies for individual sequences. The strategy for each sequence may be Up the Steps in which the player raises the stake if he wins and lowers the stake if he loses, the maximum stake being 3 coins and the minimum stake being 1 coin. The player must take care to stop once the allotted 27 coins are used up even if he is winning. Alternatively the player can use any pattern that uses 27 coins. It is preferable that the player plays with the same slot machine strategy throughout.

The chicken slot machine strategy works as follows. The player starts with any machine and plays the 27 coins as per the decided method. Once the 27 coins are wagered the player clears out the credits from that slot machine, whether he has won or lost. He then goes to another machine and plays out the next sequence. Again after completing the 27-coin sequence on that machine he clears out the credits irrespective of whether he has won or lost. And this process continues with the player running like a chicken from one machine to the next. It is important that the player keep track of the slot machines he has played on so as to avoid repetition. A good practice is to record in writing the number of the machine and the outcome of the play on that machine.

The question that arises in the chicken slot machine strategy is that what is the player to do after he has completed his designated number of plays, which is twenty in the example given earlier. There are several options that are commonly followed. The usual option is that once the designated number of plays is complete it is “Game Over” and the player goes home whatever the outcome. Others like to keep their initial bankroll aside if they have won and play with their winnings.
