The $310 million Penn National Gaming will open a 2,000-machine casino in 2008

Penn National Gaming will build the Hollywood Casino at the racetrack in Grantville. The casino will be housed in a five-storey building and can house 2,000 slot machines.

Hollywood Casino will be open in the first month of 2008. The casino will cost $310 million to construct.

The Hollywood Casino is located about 40 miles northwest of Lancaster City along Route 743 about nine miles north of Hershey, in Dauphin County.

Peter Carlino, Penn National Gaming Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said "We remain highly confident that Hollywood Casino will prove to be an exciting entertainment destination for patron." The company is based in Wyomissing, Berks County. A written statement by Peter Carlino blamed the additional expenses on higher cost and refinement plan.

In the United States Penn National Gaming is the fourth-largest publicly traded gambling company. The company owns and operates 16 casino and horse-racing facilities at 13 locations in Canada and United States.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will hold a hearing on the company's license request on August 9.

The Gaming Board unanimously rejected an application to open a $150 million slots parlor in downtown Lancaster in February.

Jerome C. Finerock and James A. Nettleton Jr., the two attorneys behind the project, wanted to install as many as 5,000 slot machines in the Bulova Technologies building at North Queen and Orange Street.

Lancaster's gambling law allows 61,000 slot machines at 14 venues, including freestanding slots parlors.
