Indiana Racing Tracks Get The Green Light for Slot Machines

As of May 23, 2007, 2 of the pari-mutuel racing tracks in Indiana are planning construction activities after Indiana's legislature allowed slot machines at the Indiana Downs and Hoosier Park.

The Indiana Horse Racing Commission approved the request of Indiana Downs to spend a total of $300,000 to build a new stable for the Shelby County Racing Track.

Both Racing Tracks are expected to begin their construction, which will allow them to host 2,000 more slot machines under the new law.

Just this month, Governor Mitch Daniels signed a law that will require each racing track to give the state a total of $250 million over the next 2 years in order for them to be allowed to host the slot machines.

The racing tracks should also spend $100 million to construct the new casino facility. Joe Gorajec, the Executive Director of the Horse Racing Commission, said that their horse racing tracks face a hard task of giving money for the licensing fee and making slot areas.

Nonetheless, Gorajec is sure that both the management of the racing tracks are up to the challenge. The slot machines law will be enforced on July 1, 2007 and a temporary facility may be utilized for the machines until a permanent facility is built after 2 years.
