Treasure Bay In Biloxi Adds More Slot And VIdeo Poker Machines

Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel in Biloxi has launched a new slot area that increases by almost 300% the number of its slot machines.

After Hurricane Katrina destroyed all 12 casinos on the Mississippi Gulf Coast a year ago, Treasure Bay reopened in June with only 81 slot machines across U.S. 90, on the first floor of the hotel establishment. The casino has since expanded and covered the previous lobby area, now featuring 228 slot and video poker machines.

The same area has a bar and a 24-hour restaurant called "The Den."

The said expansion developed sooner than expected and it is seen by observers as a competitive step against the planned opening of Beau Rivage in the first week of September.

Treasure Bay's casino is expected to be completed this fall. It will feature 250 remodeled rooms, as well as an expanded casino of over 800 slot machines and 22 table games.

Earlier, Executive Director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission Larry Gregory had said that the commission's approval for Treasure Bay's reopening with only 81 slots is due to the fact that Treasure Bay is an established Gulf Coast casino.

"Would I have let another gaming company without their history do it?" Gregory asked. "Absolutely not."
