New Western New England Colleges Poll Show Supports for House Speaker DeLeos Casino and Slots Plan

Governor Deval Patrick conduct his campaign a few years ago largely on a gambling expansion platform in Massachusetts. He won the election, showing that most state residents are in favor of Governor Patrick's plan.

A poll conducted by the New Western New England College on April 23rd, 2010, confirmed what many had believed, that Massachusetts residents were in favor of casino gaming expansion.

The poll specifically asked respondents about House Speaker Robert DeLeo's proposal that is being reviewed in the state government building. Out of the 481 individuals that were polled, 58% said that they were in favor of Speaker DeLeo's proposal.

While the results was good news for gaming supporters, 53% of individuals still said that they did not want a casino facility in their area. DeLeo has proposed a pair of casino resorts to be constructed in the state.

Aside from that, horse racing track would receive the chance to offer a minimal amount of slot machines. The House has already passed Speaker DeLeo's plan and it has been sent to the state Senate. However, the Senate has stated that they will take their time in reviewing the gaming issue.

They are planning on approving their proposal, separate from the House bill that has been approved. Governor Deval Patrick has stated that he is not in favor of the slot machines at state tracks plan.

He has also said that he may veto the plan but the percentage of the House members that approved the plan put an end to the speculation that Gov. Patrick may use his veto power.
