Woodlands Facility Must Take Next Step for Slot Machines

On April 18th, 2008, the move to offer slot machines at the Woodlands racing track in Kansas City, Kansas will now be up to track officials. The director of gambling facilities for the Kansas Lottery, Keith Kocher, informed the Kansas Lottery Commission that contract talks with the greyhound and horse racing track are nearing finalization.

Kocher said that the next step in the whole process-which is a review of the contract by the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board, would not begin until the racing track officials respond to the latest draft of the gambling contract. Kocher commented that Woodlands has consulted a 3rd party to make a market survey for the additional offering of at least eight hundred slot machines at the racing track.

The General Manager of Woodlands Jayme LaRocca confirmed that they have commissioned the study although he said that he is not still aware of the result of the study. The study aims to understand the financial aspect that is involved with utilizing a temporary casino establishment to keep the slot machines as well testing the different rules enforced by the Kansas Expanded Lottery Act. That rule gives the Woodlands facility the power to offer slot machines. He added that they are ready to start offering the slot machines within a period of 6 months.
