Sands Bethworks Gaming has finally gotten permission from the Pennsylvania Gaming Board to conver the old Bethlehem Steel site into a modern slots casino. The move received mixed responses from the local citizens.

Jerry Paresa of the San Manuel Indian Tribe said that he is hopeful that the California gaming compact will be approved. California could earn as much as $506 million from casino revenues and more in the long term.

Slots earnings in Pennsylvania improved by 32% compared in 2008. But gaming analysts said new gaming competition from neighboring states might affect the results.

Hialeah Park reopened on November 28th, 2009 after eight long years. The park will offer slot machines to its visitors.

The state commission has awarded the slots gaming license to Cordish Co. for the Arundel Mills mall slots facility. The facility could open by December 2011.
