Penn National To Choose Slots Facility Location

On July 4th, 2008, Penn National Gaming has received an eighteen month option to buy a piece of land in Cecil County, Md., which may soon be allowed to host electronic slot machines. The choice is for thirty-six acres of land in Perryville. The land is a part of a 150 acre site that land developer Stewart Associate plans to construct a hotel, visitor's center and merchandise space on. Penn National owns and manages Charles Town Races and Slots in West Virginia.

In November 2008, the state of Maryland will hold a statewide referendum to ask voters if they are in favor of allowing up to fifteen thousand slot machines in Cecil County, 3 other counties and the city of Baltimore. Supporters of the slot machines said that if the slot machines were approve, it could mean millions of dollars for the communities in Maryland. The money that will be earn from slot machines will be allocated for the local schools, health care, tax rebate and can be use to even help the local horse racing industry.

If the referendum is approved by the state voters, Penn National Gaming from Pennsylvania stated that they have plans to apply for a gambling license and invest up to $125 million on an entertainment facility at the Perryville location.
